Hot or Not: Current Wellness Trends Explored

A intro to my hot takes on current wellness topics from a podcast interview with Annie Berdar, co-founder of Bare Blends.

Wellness Trend Hot Takes

Last month, I was interviewed by a friend in the wellness space, Annie Berdar, who is the co-founder of Bare Blends and founder of the Bare Approach podcast. This was such a refreshing, lighthearted, and yet evidence-based discussion spanning a variety of hot topics in the current (often perplexing) wellness space.

We discuss broad topics such as healthy and unhealthy diets, weight loss factors, digestive health, hormone health, metabolic health, and then zoom into some nitty gritty nuances, such as what to bother spending your money and energy on, and contrastingly, what to pass up.

I’ve linked the full podcast episode on YouTube below, and encourage you to give it a listen, and share with others, if you’re at all confused about what wellness trends to engage with or not.

Watch the full episode on Spotify or your podcast platform by searching "The Restore Lab".

Within the episode we debunk the following questions:

  • How much protein should we actually eat daily?
  • Where should our protein be coming from?
  • Is berberine nature’s Ozempic?
  • How do we address hormone ‘imbalances’?
  • What is the ‘best’ long-term diet?

Wellness Trends That Can Stay (according to myself):

  • Use of collagen
  • Higher protein diets
  • Use of creatine as a supplement
  • Rise of mocktails/non-alcoholic culture
  • Medicinal mushrooms/adaptogens

Wellness Trends That Should Go Away (according to myself):

  • Gummy supplements
  • Highly marketed “health foods” with proprietary blend sprinkles
  • ‘Hormone balancing’ powders
  • Keto or Carnivore diets long-term
  • GLP-1 agonists used in isolation (without other lifestyle changes)

My Own Wellness Trend Wish List for Long-Term Health

  • A greater focus on fiber (and my intro to the Make Fiber Sexy Movement!)
  • Whole foods dietary pattern without excluding any major food categories
  • Eating a greater variety of plant-foods to fuel the gut microbiome

Perhaps most importantly, at the end of the episode, I share why I want my nickname to be called ‘The Tahini Queenie’ (Let me know what you think!!)
